Whats the main function of PVC flooring wear layer?

1. Wear and Scratch Resistance

The most important function of the wear layer is wear resistance. It is fmade up of high-strength materials (typically polyurethane or specialized acrylic resins) to resist scratches from hard and sharp objects, such as furniture legs, shoe soles, etc. Also it is protective from long-term foot traffic in high-traffic areas like public transport system, commercial shopping malls, offices, hospitals and residential hallways.

2. Stain and Chemical Resistance

The dense molecular structure of the wear layer prevents stains such as coffee, juice, oil, and ink to penetrate. It also resists mild chemical corrosion from cleaning agents, which ensures the PVC flooring surface remains easy to clean and maintain.

3. UV Resistance

High-quality wear layers are added with UV stabilizers, which can effectively reduce color fading or yellowing of the flooring caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight, maintaining the original color and luster of the floor for a longer time.

The wear resistance of the PVC floor wear layer is often tested by the Taber Abrasion Test.

Among the test, a rotating abrasive wheel rubs against the flooring surface under a specified load, and the mass loss of the sample after a certain number of rotations is measured. The lower the mass loss, the better the wear resistance of the layer.
