The Importance of PVC Flooring Maintenance

PVC flooring is widely used in commercial, residential, and public spaces due to its advantages such as wear resistance, water resistance, and ease of cleaning. However, without proper maintenance after installation of PVC flooring, common quality problems will gradually emerge, directly affecting its lifespan and aesthetics.

The main problems that may result from improper maintenance, covering four aspects: daily upkeep, stain removal, environmental factors, and installation details.

1.

Surface Scratches and Abrasions:

PVC flooring has a relatively soft surface. Using hard cleaning tools (such as steel wool or stiff brushes) or pushing a cart with metal wheels can easily cause scratches and dents during walking or moving. Long-term friction can lead to a decrease in surface gloss, resulting in a "frosted" feel, and even fine cracks, affecting the overall appearance.

2.

Stain Penetration and Discoloration:

Acidic, alkaline, or corrosive cleaners, oil stains, coffee, juice, and other liquids, if not wiped up promptly, can seep into the seams or floor mat, causing localized discoloration, yellowing, or stubborn stains. Colored substances, especially cigarette butts and iodine, are particularly prone to penetrating and leaving permanent stains if poured directly onto the floor.

3.

Dampness, Mold, and Bubbling:

PVC itself is waterproof, but if the substrate is not completely dry during installation, or if it is used in a damp environment for a long time, moisture will cause the flooring to swell, bubble, and curl at the edges, and in severe cases, even mold will appear. Dampness can also cause the flooring to lose its elasticity, resulting in "bulging" or "cracking".

4.

Seam Leakage and Delamination:

Improper seam treatment (such as loose welds) can cause moisture to seep in along the seams. Long-term water accumulation can lead to delamination and peeling between the floor mat and the base layer. Delamination results in the floor mat losing support, creating a "hollow" feeling when walking, and accelerating other damage.

5.

Gloss Decline and Surface Aging:

After long-term use, if the surface is not waxed regularly or a special polish is not used, the gloss will gradually decrease, resulting in dullness and yellowing. Especially in high-traffic areas, the wear rate is faster. If waxing is not performed in time, the wear-resistant layer of the floor mat will fail prematurely, leading to a significant reduction in the overall lifespan.

6.

Structural problems caused by installation quality:

In addition to routine maintenance, the details of the installation stage are equally crucial. If the base surface is uneven, moisture-proofing is not done properly, or the expansion gap is insufficient, even with proper routine maintenance, problems such as the floor mat lifting, cracking, and water seepage at the joints may occur. These problems often appear within a year of use, and the repair costs are far higher than routine cleaning.

Comprehensive Recommendations:

Daily Cleaning: Use a soft-bristled brush or vacuum cleaner to remove dust, and wipe gently with a damp cloth. Avoid using strong acids, alkalis, or abrasive cleaners.

Scratch Protection: Do not use forklifts with metal wheels, and avoid dragging hard objects directly.

Prompt Stain Treatment: Use degreaser for oil stains, and wipe with a neutral detergent for juice stains to prevent seepage into seams.

Environmental Control: Maintain indoor ventilation and avoid prolonged exposure to dampness or direct sunlight.

Regular Maintenance: Perform waxing or polishing treatment every 2-3 months to maintain surface shine.

Inspection and Repair: Regularly inspect seams and edges for bubbles, peeling, or water seepage. Replace affected areas promptly if problems are found.

By implementing the above scientific maintenance measures, the service life of PVC flooring can be significantly extended, maintaining its appearance and functionality, and avoiding common problems such as scratches, blistering, deformation, and mold caused by improper maintenance.
